Blog Talk Radio

Pay special attention to these blogtalkradio links I provide below. If the links change then just go to http://www.blogtalkradio.com and look for the “help” link and by doing some digging you should be able to find a ton of resources to help you in getting started on blogtalkradio. But these links below are Key to getting started on blogtalkradio.

The Help page/FAQ:

Especially pay attention to the blogtalk radio 101 section:

This is an excellent resource and you really should read through this entire section very carefully.

Then clickon “My Blogtalk Radio” in the upper right of the screen.
Updating your Profile and important information & Writing down important info

Note: I am using Firefox for Blogtalk radio but you can also try other browsers and they should work.

Once you log into your account the first thing you should make sure your profile is up to date so people listening to your show can know how to find more information about you as well as visit your various social networks and websites.

Editing Account:
Click on “Edit My Account”
Make sure everything is filled out that you wish to share in the profile information.
Pay special attention to the “My other Sites” area.
Add your Twitter, Facebook in this area.
Also add your website in the “My other links” section. You can also add your blog if you wish or any other links you want to add. Some ideas are your Youtube, or other blogs you may have.Still on the same page you will see on the top left where it says settings you can click on “My page”
Click on this and fill out all pertinent information. You should also pay special attention to the area that is marked “Show Information”
Write a good description for the show you plan to do because this is what people will see when they are browsing for a show to listen to on the BTR Website.

Also note these things and write them down in a safe place:
Your Host Dial in number:
Your PIN:
Your Listener dial in number:
Your Host ID:

Once you have all the information filled out, click on “Save all” to save the settings you just changed. Now click on “Myblogtalkradio” in the upper right hand side of the screen.

Adding/scheduling an Episode

Click on “Add/Edit an Episode” to schedule an episode. Fill out the fields, they are self explainatory.

It’s Show Time

Once you schedule a show, be sure to dial into your host number and enter your pin at least a few minutes before the scheduled time. Once you are dialed in just follow the voice prompt on the phone. Now that you are dialed in it is time to view your switchboard so you can unmute/mute callers and operate everything you need to for your show.

Operating the Switchboard

Once you are dialed into the show, Sign in to blogtalkradio.com if have not done so already. click on “Myblogtalkradio” in the upper right of the screen.

Click on “My Switchboard”

The swtichboard is where you will be in command of your show. You can mute and unmute callers as well as use sound effects.

When it is show time you simply dial into the show using your unique showhost phone number and you enter your pin as prompted. There is a separate phone number for your listeners and callers to call into.

Talkshoe.com

Talkshoe is another Internet radio service you can use to run your radioshow/conference calls. I say conference calls because I have always viewed Talkshoe as a hybrid of internet radio and conferencing service. You can have 250 people on a call at once and be in control of who talks and what they type on the chat room. Talks shoe is a free service just like Blogtalkradio. I will first provide some resources that you can check out to get more information on how to make the best use of Talkshoe.

First thing you want to do is go to http://www.talkshoe.com and click on the white “sign-up” button towards the top left of your browser window.

The best way to get started with internet radio is to listen to what others are doing. Once you setup an account and login. Click on the purple “live now” button. Browse through different calls/shows that are playing and start listening to calls. You can stream calls via the internet or you can just call the main talkshow number from any phone by dialing 1(724)-444-7444 and then dialing whatever the show id is: for example 84862# is a show ID. You just enter the #(pound) after the show ID. You can then listen from any phone.

To create a call you can click on the green “create” button. Near the top left of the screen. If you already created a show you can click on “my talkshoe” button to see your shows you created.

When it is time to start your show you can run the show via the online interface but all you really need to run a call is your telephone. Just dial into the main talkshoe phone number 1(724)-444-7444 and enter the call ID that talkshoe assigned to you when you created your show. You can also find this my looking clicking the “MyTalkshoe” button and clicking on the show you created. The show ID will be on that page.

I am going to now give you some Website resources so you can find out more about how to use Talkshoe.

The most important thing you should do, is attend a free show host training session:

http://www.talkshoe.com/blog/

When you check out the blog, look for dates of upcoming training sessions. They have them multiple times per month and am not sure of their frequency or exact dates. But by checking the blog you will have the most up to date information. This is really a valuable resource that you should make use of if your serious about becoming a good show host.

Setting up X-lite or other problems having to do with talkshoe?

Search for the user “Guessed” on talkshoe.

Just go to the main talkshoe page and type the word: guessed

in the search box. You will see all his shows.

Look for this show:

TalkShoe Not Working, Do You Need HELP?”

http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/28905

Once you get to the above show or similar. Look for a little link that says “more” Its after some text right after the Description of the show. You click that link and you will see step by step instructions on how to setup programs like X-lite, SJ phone as well as other SIP phones. You also may want to try making his talkshoe shows when they are on, he can offer some great information on how to use Talkshoe and is a great resource.

Also Read the Help Section on Talkshoe:

http://www.talkshoe.com/blog/index.php/help

Especially pay attention to the videos that are on there:

http://www.talkshoe.com/se/help/videoDemos.html

Podcasts

Here is the great news about podcasts. When you use either Blogtalkradio or Talkshoe your shows will automatically show up in Itunes. You can also create a show without these services by just using tools such as http://www.skype.com and Audacity.
